Philadelphia is not the safest of cities. The campus itself and Center
City are somewhat safe, but the rest of the city can be downright
frightening. Be smart and walk with friends or take cabs at night. I
found having a motorcycle to be of special benefit since parking is
hard to find in a big city.
Most students live in apartments in Center City. Some live in high
rises and others live in brownstones. I lived at 2400 Chestnut, which
has been named "Grad Dorm C" because of the large number of grad
students living there.
There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Philly. It's not hard to
see why Philly rates as one of the most obese cities in the US. As a
fan of Cheesesteaks, I loved being able to find a "Steak" anywhere in
town.
