Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA |
The process is consistent with other top tier Business Schools. Items
to be submitted include GMAT, GPA, essays, recommendations, and a
interview. A GMAT score below 700 or a GPA below 3.4 make it more
important to have perfect essays and a perfect interview, however, even
those with good statistics will find it a hard school to get into. I
believe less than 15% of applicants are accepted.
The essays are fairly standard. There is an essay about why you want
an MBA, what your career goals are, and why Wharton is a good fit. The
mistake I made the first time was being too "business like". I
received feedback that I should be more open and personal in my
essays. I used this approach as a reapplicant and not only got into
Wharton, but a few other top 10 schools by revamping my approach. The
interview is either with an admissions officer, student, or alumnus.
Who you interview with is not important. The interview is very much
like a fit interview you would have for a job. What have you done?
What are your goals? Why my school?
Recommendations should come from those who know you best and will take
the time to do a thorough job. Getting a recommendation from a VIP who
does not know you is a bad idea.
My best advice is to do as well as possible on the GMAT. Take the
essays very seriously and do not be afraid to do a bit of "soul
searching". Get recommendations from people who know you well. Be
relaxed and candid in the interview. If you don't get in, get the
optional feedback and reapply.
