Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
Wharton is even more selective now than when I applied in late
1994/early 1995. Then, the average GMAT score was 650 and I had a 660.
I was confident in my undergrad record & 3.5 overall GPA and I had great
recommendations from my mentors where I worked at the IMF. I took
Princeton Review to ensure my GMAT was above average & used their books
for advice on applications - essays & recommendations. I emphasized my
strengths and my differences (female, had I graduate degree already (MSc
in Economics from London School of Economics, 2 years experience at an
international organization). I knew a ton of investment banking
analysts & junior consultants would be applying to Wharton, so tried to
set myself apart from the usual. I remember on my campus visit/
interview day an admissions official said, "Most people who apply to
Wharton have the credentials to get in, we need to take the pool of
applicants and make sure they are diverse & can learn from each other".
Wharton was my top choice and highly selective, a top 5 business school
which became #1 overall and in finance during the years I was there. I
made an effort to have my interview on campus with an admissions
officer, assuming it might hold more weight than an alumni interviewer,
though am obviously not able to confirm that.
