Life in Denton:
Denton provides a college experience with a small town feel. Its
population is around 80,000, and because it is about 30 miles north of
Dallas it is both convenient to and separate from the big city life.
Housing options are many: you may choose to live in dorms, in apartment
housing on or just around campus, or somewhere farther way. In either
case, your commute to school if you live in Denton shouldn't exceed 10
minutes at most! Rental rates vary; you can find studio apartments near
campus for $550/mo (all bills paid), or you can choose a family-
oriented residential area 1-bedroom apartment for $600/mo and up...so
if you want to save on rent, it's possible with cheap studios or
finding roommates (another favorite option). Neighborhoods are of the
close-knit, small-town variety, the people are very chatty and friendly
for the most part (as are Texans in general), and crime is low (if
you're looking for thrills, drive to some Dallas neighborhoods,
otherwise be ready for a calm academic year!). Dining options are
pretty standard: plenty of traditional fast-food joints, several
national chains (Chili's, Red Lobster),several Asian restaurants
(mostly Chinese), Mexican restaurants, and a few "fancy" places. You
won't go hungry here, and if you're looking for more exotic places,
there is always Arlington which is less than an hour away.
