Career Services has been great. They focus on helping students find what they
really want, not just what is easy. Interviews are conducted with 50% closed
lists (company pre-selects), and 50% bidding. So even if the company doesn't
select your resume, you still have a chance to interview--many students have
gotten offers this way!
Students also are very helpful--willing to meet with other students on their own
time to help them prep for interviews. The strong community environment helps out
in this area, as people have been willing to give up their interview spots once
they've accepted a job, as well as help out others with tips and networking. I
feel this is very unusual in a heated b-school setting.
Plenty of companies come on campus but also many people choose to do a
self-directed search if the companies/industry they wish to pursue are not
available on campus. Companies hold Michigan with high esteem, as Michigan grads
have a reputation for being well-rounded as well as being able to work well in
teams.
Another thing to note--Michigan graduation is about 2 weeks earlier than most
other business schools, which is conducive to doing multiple internships during
the summer, as well as a head start on full-time off-campus job-searching.
