Full-time MBA program If you are single then Hyde Park is probably a great place for you. There are a couple (Regents being the most popular) of buildings chock full of your classmates facilitating group work, parties and "hooking up". Unfortunately, there are few places to "go out" in the immediate neighborhood and cab rides to the typical social locations in town are a pain (and 30$+). Facilities for classes are good and the new building will be top of the line (opening in Fall 2004). Food options on campus kindof suck- and there are few options short of getting in your car and driving a long way elsewhere. Many buildings have their own food service and these can be wildly divergent (GSB is overpriced with heavy emphasis on sandwiches but may be different in the new building, nearby Divinity School has Middle Eastern, Mexican, Chinese, etc... meals prepared by local restaurants, Bartlet has a full cafeteria that is "typical" of today's institutions, there is a Taco Bell somewhere...). Crime in Hyde Park is not as bad as the hype but care should be taken while outside of a fairly defined radius. Many students live nearer the center of the city (or even the northside) which has all the ammenities of the country's second largest city. In everything but pizza and the sluttiness of the night scene Chicago beats NYC hands down as a place to live (visiting is another matter). If you have a spouse or significant other who is not attending school then they will likely hate Hyde Park (unless you are in one of those relationships where its all about YOU and they stay home all day). Sad to say but many of the married couples in Hyde Park are international. This tends to be because proximity to school is seen as very important when school is the main reason for being in the country. In all honesty it doesn't take that much longer from say Lincoln Park (great neighborhood) if you have a car to get to school. Visit and check things our for yourself (if at all possible) before deciding where to live- talk to current students!!!
