Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-Time MBA |
I found the admissions process well handled, fairly competitive, and not
that difficult (keep in mind that my experience was 15 years ago). When
I applied, there was a single essay and optional interview. Admissions
were on a rolling basis, so the earlier you applied the earlier you got
a decision. I remember that - upon acceptance - I received a call from
a student welcoming me and offering to answer any questions I might
have. The admissions office was also very responsive and helpful.
Candidate selection - I later found out, was somewhat sketchy. Instead
of picking "the best and the brightest", the admissions office was
focused on creating what they considered "a model, diversified, GSB
community". Translation: a less-than-stellar administration picks a
less than stellar class. To be sure, there were a number of exceptional
students who were absolutely accomplished and first rate. There were
also too many students who where "average" and several who were
downright unqualified. To sum up the overall feel of the class
composition - a ton of CPAs from the midwest who all felt their
admission to the GSB verified their excellence and guaranteed they would
be running IBM five years after graduation (this is a bit of an
exaggeration - but it's not far off the mark)
