On the basis of application essays, GPA/GMAT and other scores and an
optional (but highly suggested) interview each applicant gets
3 "readings". Usually this is one current student, one admissions
person and the Head of Admissions (he is the "tie breaker" and has been
said to reverse the other two readers' decision in rare cases). The
readers score 8 categories with comments and then assign an overall
admit/deny recommendation with specific comments. These last specific
comments are particularly useful for waitlist candidates as this is
where they will be asked for supplemental materials.
