The application is difficult because the essays can be quirky. They require a
lot
of thought. The GMAT is important, but not all powerful; the admissions
committee understands that there are bright people who don't test real well.
The
interview is very important, and can often make an application. Those who do
not interview are at a disadvantage, no doubt, unless there are reasons beyond
anyone's control (i.e., geographic remoteness) for not having one.
