Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
Admissions Process:
The admissions process was very organized compared to other programs to
which I was applying. The admissions staff actually remembered what
they had read in the essays well into the school year.
Advice on getting in:
When I was considering applying I wanted to sit in on a class and visit
the campus. It was very difficult to touch base with the students.
While they were helpful through e-mail, it was much difficult to get
ahold of them by phone.
Interview:
During the year I had applied, Berkeley did not interview many of the
candidates. Last year this process changed and most admits were
interviewed. Candidates are interviewed by current students who
volunteer for such opportunities. My concern is that these students
are not as skilled in interviewing students. As such, I am not sure
that the interviews are providing any useful information.
Essays:
Berkeley's application consists of several short answer questions and
one longer traditional essay question. The short answer questions are
designed to get to know the student on a more personal level. Examples
of these questions include the following
- past or present who would you take to dinner and why.. what would you
order?
- what is your greatest accomplishment
Berkeley actually values students who think outside the box with these
questions.
Selectivity
My personal belief is that business school is not very selective, and
Berkeley is no exception. Many of the students that are admitted are
excellent performers in the work setting, but not so in the academic
setting. Many students attempt to get the bare minimum done.
