Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
The admissions process was pretty painless. I met a recruiter from the
program when she visited my undergraduate institution. I had little
interest in getting an MBA at the time, but after talking to her and
giving the program a serious look, I decided I would apply.
The program has what it calls "The Razorback Red Carpet Treatment",
which is a day a prospect can come to the U of A, learn about the
progam in person, evaluate the facilities and resources available, meet
the MBA director and others associated with the program, sit in on a
class, and get taken out for a great lunch. Sometimes, additional
outtings are even planned. For instance, one student I know was taken
to the Wal-Mart Museum in Bentonville (about 30 minutes away) just
because he was interested. The recruiter and all the Graduate School
of Business staff goes all-out to make applicants and potential
applicants feel at home.
The actual application process was pretty standard. You apply either
online or with paper forms (I recommend online, because then you don't
have to use a manual type-writer to fill out those forms!). The
application is 2 or 3 pages long, not including the essay section.
You should really put a lot of heart into the essay section, because
those essays are the review committee's window on who you are. There
will be a lot of 3.XX GPA, high GMAT candidates. The essays allow you
to set yourself apart. Also, be sure and select the right people to do
your letters of recommendation. A bad word from a recommender can sink
you; words of praise from recommenders that have worked with you and
know you well can elevate you above the rest.
Finally, the program has multiple deadlines for application. If you
can, make the early deadline. There is a finite number of students the
program can handle (around 65 right now, I think), and it takes quality
students from the 1st round without "holding" spots for the later
rounds. Basically, the earlier round your apply in, the better your
chances, in my opinion.
