Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
My admissions experience was atypical: Although Tulane/Freeman hadn't
been on my radar screen, the Freeman admissions staff invited me to
apply--for free, using an "express" application--after I got a good
score on the GMAT. I applied because there was no downside: Filling out
the app was painless, requiring only a very brief essay. They called my
recommenders, and they called me for a phone interview. Within 48
hours, I was not only accepted, I was also offered a very attractive
scholarship package.
Freeman's approach to me impressed me because it told me that the
school used what it taught: The staff targeted the "customer" they
wanted, figured out what that customer wanted (quick, easy, free app
process, etc.), and marketed the school to the customer (I was invited
to visit the campus and was welcomed when I did).
In terms of selectivity, Freeman's getting more selective, I think,
while trying to enlarge the class size (used to be 75 per graduating
year, the current grad year is about 125, and the class of 2005 is
about 100). The stats have been moving steadily upward, and the
admissions staff calls upon the expertise of the economics and stats
faculty to refine the numbers and see what factors are the best
predictors of how a student will do in the program.
I'd say that the quality of students overall is high--not Top 10
quality, but there are some incredibly bright people here. Some of the
international students--about 40% of each class is from overseas--
especially are very accomplished and smart.
