Way too much partying goes on in Lubbock. It's almost as bad as Austin,
Texas.
Too many bars. A whole city district devoted to alcoholic beverages. A
whole strip of liqour, beer and wine stores in a centralized part of
town.
Lubbock has plenty of brand named stores (Best Buy, Home Depot, IHOP), a
nice mall, good city parks, and decent weather.
There are more men than women there - 2:1.5 at least - so don't go there
if you want to find a wife. Major woman shortage. You don't want most
of them anyway as many are products of West Texas and that's a bad
thing, culturally speaking.
The worst part about Tech is that it is in West Texas. The "townies"
there are a bunch of inbred mountaineering uncultured idiots. Severe
unnecessary bible-thumping occurs there on a massive scale. Most people
in West Texas are isolated from civilization and a peculiar myopic
perspective on the world. It's ok if you stay on campus, but once you
go out in the town be prepared to meet "Bubba" and "Jed". If you like
pickup trucks and drunk driving this town is for you.
The good news about the townies is that they are only dangerous to
themselves, not to outsiders. If you just let them go on believing in
nonsense like heaven and socialism, and never interfere or diagree with
them, then they will leave you alone. The best advice is to stay clear
of them whenever possible.
