Stanford was a highly social school, especially second year. There were
a couple of dive cowboy bars (Zots and the Goose) that attracted regular
crowds. But the main social interchange was during the day in and
around the school. We had regular Friday beer and wine parties, and
occasional stage performances that brought everyone together. Stanford
and Palo Alto are very beautiful, safe, clean, liberating places. There
was a regular refrain about going back to the real world, referring to
the idyllic conditions of the college as something that wouldn't
(shouldn't?) last.
