largest city in New Hampshire (dubbed the Queen City because she is
larger than the state capitol, Concord). The city straddles the
Merrimack River and provides a good proximity to both urban environments
such as Boston, Mass., and New Hampshire's Seacoast, Lakes and White
Mountains regions. Manchester's name refers to the great industrial
force of Manchester, England, a force Manchester, New Hampshire, was
able to rival by the late 1800s when the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company
became the world's largest textile plant. While the Amoskeag
Manufacturing Company declared bankruptcy in 1935, the city has
continued to grow within around the mills' remains, becoming a center in

Hampshire is famous nationwide for some of its attractions and events --
including happenings so big they deserve to be listed as attractions
unto themselves! September is Scottish Heritage Month in New Hampshire,
and the pinnacle of that period of Gaelic glee is the three-day Highland
Games, Sept. 19, 20 and 21. This year the games have moved to Hopkinton,
where a larger venue means more acts to see and things to do. NH.com

games. Covered bridges (sometimes called "kissing bridges") have
achieved near- iconic status in New England and throughout America and
the world. Roofed to protect the main timber trusses from the
deleterious affects of rain and snow, many of these bridges have lasted
more than 100 years. New Hampshire boasts more than 50 of these old-
timers. The Granite State hosts one of big three U.S. motorcycle events -
the Laconia Motorcycle Rally and Race. Here, according to the event's
executive director, Charlie St. Clair, motorcyclists, enthusiasts and
people who are just plain curious, have descended on Laconia almost
every year since 1916 to cruise, check out the bikes and celebrate a
