This year's on-campus recruiting schedule is shaping up better than last year.
The major I-banks and consulting firms are back on campus. Of course, the oil
majors are here as well as other Fortune 500 firms. Rice was a pipeline to the
merchant energy market, which is much smaller now than before Enron's crash so
fewer students are working in that industry, but energy merchants still come to
campus and our alumni ties into energy are second to none, if not the best.
Finally, the career office has done a lot of work to develop relationships with
smaller firms in areas such as bio-technology venture capital, which is helped by
the Rice Technology Alliance (a consortium of Rice Schools and the Texas Medical
Center).
