I personally lived in the student dorm during my first semester. It was good and fun and the so-called quality of life was OK. We also have 2 cafes at school, they serve everything - from soups to snacks. So, you can't be hungry. Neighborhood is safe I would say, at least I did not hear that something bad happened, not including WTC tragedy (Pace is very close to World Trade Center area).
