Kellogg social life is fantastic. It starts with TG??'s (short for Thank
God It's Friday) when the school rolls in kegs and snacks Fridays at
5. Again since the community is so tight, it's just another way to get
together and unwind after a long week of classes. Popular bars in the
area include Bar Louie (nice place for groups, nice atmosphere, etc),
Nevin's (live music), 1800 (undergrad haven) and then finally the Keg
(fully equipped with lots of undergrads, open until 3, and even has its
own dancing pole). If drinking is not your thing, there are also
plenty of restaurants, including Trio which is rated top 25 in
Chicago. There is great steak at Pete Miller's (which also has a nice
bar), great Thai at Noodle Garden and phenomenal milkshakes at
Kaffein. The school also hosts 4-5 formal parties a year including a
Charity Auction Ball where students auction off "real talents" like
art, tennis lessons, or home made meals to "not-so-real talents" like
fantasy dinners and dog walks. Professors also auction off their time
or a tutoring lesson or even a personal contact. All proceeds go to
charity. There is also Cheezy Wine (70's party) and Casino Night
(again all proceeds to charity, professors and students work the
tables).
People alternate the Evanston scene with the Chicago scene and
that greatly increases as your Kellogg tenure gets longer. 2nd years
frequent Chicago much more, probably partly because they realize they
are going to leave this area and have never experienced John
Barleycorn's (Lincoln Park) or the Chicago Architecture tour.
There are clubs for everything at Kellogg and if there isn't one,
you can start one. Everything is student run and there is very little
fear in not being able to find something you're interested in. There
are the standard functional b-school clubs - Marketing, Consulting,
Banking, etc., other standard clubs like Cork and Screw (wine), Rugby,
Flag Football and then even some different clubs (Go-Kon, Creativa (for
creative outlets, etc).
The dating scene at Kellogg is pretty thriving; however over
40% of students are married. Ratios are very strongly in favor of the
females at Kellogg but beware - if you start inter-Kellogg dating, be
ready for the entire school to know about it within minutes.
