MIT is definitely not the place to come to if you want beautiful buildings (being a Princeton alum, I know the difference!), but the facilities inside the buildings are more than adequate in terms of study space, places to hang out and Wireless Internet access. It's safe to walk back home at all times; the campus police is generally pretty visible.
