Sloan's admissions process involves submitting 5 essays, 2
recommendations, GMAT scores, college transcripts, and an interview.
As with other Top 10 business schools, high quantitative scores (GMAT
and GPA) are helpful, but not essential. Sloan in particular is trying
to shed it's image of being a "techie geek" school. Therefore, liberal
arts majors and non-engineers may have an unexpected edge in the
admissions process.
The interview differs from most schools in that the interviewer has
already read your file and asks questions specific to you. It is also
more interactive and "probing" in that the interviewer asks more
questions related to your answers to previous questions. The school
has increasingly focused on the interview to "weed out" people who look
good on paper but are not strong communicators, again to move away from
the stereotype of being smart but not polished communicators.
All in all, the admissions process, though rigorous, provided an
accurate measure of fit with the school. I am very impressed with my
fellow classmates.
