Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA Program |
Admissions are, essentially a two-step process, not unlike going for
jobs. The application comes first. Scores are fairly important -
mostly because the school needs to exhibit high scores among entering
students. Without at least a 600 GMAT, you probably stand no chance at
LBS. The average is much closer to 700. Work experience is vital.
The average work experience for entering students is six years.
Consider three years to be the minimum. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE
ESSAYS! The essays are, universally, the most hated portion of the
application process. By the same token, they are the most important
single factor at LBS. Without them, we can never learn your mind and
you are nothing more than paper. So, answer thoughtfully, and
honestly, and please keep it brief! Good writing is terse and punchy,
not the opposite!
If the admissions office likes your application, you will be placed on
the "short list" and scheduled for a regional interview (in the Midwest
US, possibly with me). Our objective in the interview is to
learn "who" you are now that we know "what" you are. First and
foremost, be honest. Every interviewer will try to put you off
balance. We ask about your failures and weakness, not to learn IF you
have failed, but to learn that you're OK with failure and can learn
from it.
We assume that everyone is mostly successful, very bright, and probably
worldly. The interview tells us whether or not you belong in this
particular community.
