Quality of Life Survey |
| Part-time MBA program |
For part-time students, quality of life and housing are not really an
issue as most of the students are gainfully employed during their
tenure. That said, Emory is certainly safe, if not highly-congested.
If you work far away from the school, best to have an honest discussion
with your employer. Classes start at 6:30 and tardiness is
unprofessional, if tolerated. Parking is also an issue so be aware of
that potential frustration. Construction to build a new additional to
the school is currently under way and space is at a premium. Do not
look for the new space to be completed and available until 2006-2007.
The current building, while crowded, is a marvel of engineering. Its
striking fa??ade and state of the art classroom designs are conducive to
spirited discussions and the multimedia in each case room is quite
impressive, when it works ??which is most of the time, though be sure to
arrive early if you have an important presentation to conduct for a
class.
Computing is widely proliferated and bringing your own laptop of a
fairly recent vintage is well advised. If you get a corporate laptop,
be sure to understand what limitations are applied to your system
settings. Wireless connectivity is pervasive and the unorthodox e-mail
system is optimized for a desktop application that requires
installation privileges, as well as a unique port (other than 80).
Students are, however, given access to an excellent business library
with a litany of virtual resources, as well as a top-flight staff.
They are very knowledgeable and nearly indispensable for those killer
group projects.
It is recommended that you bite the bullet and get your own home high-
speed connection. Dial up is not practical for downloading or
uploading your assignments. The university provides students with a
35MB web-accessible ??virtual hard drive.?? Most students do not even
use it, though it can come in handy in certain situations.
