Quality of Life Survey
MBA ESADE is located in Barcelona, one of the most beautiful and comfortable cities in Europe. Housing is some of the cheapest in Europe, and most of the students live within apartments scattered about the city. Sometimes students elect to live with one another... many others, including myself, had non-ESADE roommates, which added its own flavor to life in Barcelona. One of my good friends, a British lawyer, was a roommate of mine for 4 months in Barcelona. One will pay much less for lodging and food in comparison to the US, northern Europe, or Japan. $200- $300 per month should cover ALL housing costs. An excellent housing service is called Habit Servei, and they help place international students in apartments at fair prices. They speak English, Spanish, Catalan, French, and a number of other languages, and were always helpful with me! Other placement agencies exist, and occasionally at ESADE, students put up ads looking for roommates. In this way, I lived with a Colombian doctor and his dentist wife for a few months near the end of my stay in Barcelona. The ESADE campus is located in Pedralbes, one of the poshest neighborhoods in the city. There are lovely mansions surrounding the campus and a picturesque medieval monastery lies directly across the street from one of the ESADE buildings. ESADE is fairly easy to get to via public transportation- subway and bus- the buildings are located within a small area. It is not a dangerous part of the city, and other universities and colleges are also located in the area. The computer facilities are usually enough, except perhaps in crunch periods near the end of the semester and when certain classes "requisition" the computer classrooms, such that other people cannot use the computers. However, in its defense, ESADE opens its computer rooms 7 days a week (which is very progressive for Spain!), and the computers are available late into the night, if necessary. Computers are a big part of ESADE, as they are used for many reports and for research. If necessary, Barcelona has a number of cheap cyber-cafes, which can also be used. Eating facilities at ESADE are pleasant... the lunch deals/meals are inexpensive, and are creative... from seafood dishes to salads, to pastas and steaks. Sometimes there are lines, but this is probably because the offerings are good!
