Durham is a medium sized city with some interesting local cuisine and
cultural events, but many students look to neighboring Chapel Hill and
Raleigh for social opportunities. Housing is quite affordable. Durham
definitely has its share of crime, although most of this can be avoided
by using common sense (not walking alone at night, etc.) and avoiding
the rougher parts of town. The facilities at Duke are beautiful. The
new Fox student center is a great place to meet people between
classes. Plans are in the work for new buildings, as well.
