Hanover (where Dartmouth is located) has about 10,000 people in the
greater area, as do nearby Lebanon and the combined Vermont towns
across the river. Nearest mid-sized city is Manchester (1 hr 15 mins
driving), nearest big city is Boston (2 hours driving). Other nearby
cities are Montreal (3 hrs) and New York (5 hrs).
HOUSING
More expensive than you would expect. A two-bedroom apartment in
Hanover (walking distance from campus) can easily be $1600/month. In
neighboring areas (10-15 minute drive), you can probably get a two-
bedroom or small house in the $800-$1200/month range.
CAMPUS
Beautiful. Dartmouth is one of the prettier campuses out there. Lots
of old, red brick buildings, a golf course nearby, and even a small ski
slope owned by the College. If you enjoy outdoor running, you'll love
the trails around and near campus.
FACILITIES
Some nice, new facilities, some older and not so nice. Overall,
they're adequate for the job but some classrooms could use more modern
equipment.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Pretty but very quiet for most city folks. So safe that many people
leave their house and car doors unlocked. A phenomenal place for
people with kids because of the combination of safety, beauty, and
