Ithaca is remote with the benefits and drawbacks associated with being in
away from a large metropolis. The town, surprisingly, has quite a bit of
culture to it given the huge international component of the student body.
Multiple restaurants and stores catering to different cultures exist and
make Ithaca not such a remote place.
I?m married with kids and my wife has found great stuff for family
events. Ithaca is very family oriented and there are always events for
the kids, even in deep winter. There seems to be a disproportionate
number of kids born up here too... What else do you really think we do up
here in the winter??
As far as dating is concerned I have no idea, but there are all kinds of
opportunities to meet persons from other schools such as: vet and law.
There is a club for every thing here. Sometimes 2 or 3. Clubs are tied
into the whole campus and are pretty active.
I have no idea on the Greek system.
As far as bars, clubs and parties go, Ithaca has 20,000+ students. There
are lots of happy hours and it is easy to go across the street to the bar
at the Hotel School and get good beer on tap at the hotel lounge. Or
walk 7 minutes to college town and choose between 6 other bars. Several
times a semester there are happy hours at school and you wont have to
even walk to get your free drinks...
