Tough to get housing unless you are an international student, and
housing is very hit or miss (but, hey, you are in Manhattan!).
Columbia's biggest problem remains its facilities. Uris Hall is
HORRIBLE! The classrooms are old, stinky, and plain difficult to
maneuver around. The library feels like you are in a Jetsons episode,
only the high-tech stuff didn't make it (i.e. there are not enough
internet jacks or power outlets for even a significant fraction of
those who wish to study there). So finding a spot for your IP
(integrated project) group to bang out that Corporate Finance
assignment is akin to a land grab in the wild West. The newer building,
Warren Hall, is great. Although, again, not enough study space.
Neighorhood: Morningside Heights is a lot better than it used to be,
and I certainly felt more comfortable there than in many other large
cities, however, recently there have been more crimes, such as robbery
and battery, than in the past. If you do not live in the area, it is
extremely safe to get from the business school building to the subway
or buses. Lots of places to eat in the area, but sometimes you just
have to travel south!
