CBS has the advantage of being located in NYC, so it's easy for recruiters to
visit campus. And conversely it's easy for students to visit companies for
informationals and off-campus interviews.
The CBS Career Services Office does a fantastic job of bringing in a wide range
of companies during the recruiting season (which for second-years is in the fall
and for first-years is in January). However, in this economy no one should
expect that the recruiters will be knocking down their door with job offers!
Therefore, it is just as important to conduct an off-campus internship/job
search.
The business school's student-run professional associations (e.g. Sales &
Trading Club) are a wonderful resource for students who wish to network their way
into a particular industry or company. Club members will happily put you in
touch with their contacts at past employers and/or chat with you about what it's
like to work in a particular company. Plus, most clubs publish resume books and
send them to top recruiters, and this is a great way to get invited to interview.
Additionally, CBS has an impressive and extensive list of alumni who are
(usually) happy to meet with current students and/or recommend additional
industry contacts.
Recruiters love CBS for the high caliber and place-ability of its students.
That said, most of the on-campus positions are for i-banking, sales/trading,
consulting, and consumer product marketing. Approximately 50% of students
receive an internship/full-time job offer through on-campus recruiting. The
remaining 50% find jobs through networking.
