There are a ton of committees to join, based around the industry you want
to work in, or the field you want to study, or volunteering, or social
activities, and if you don't see what you want, then you're always
allowed to start one. There's one main bar near campus - the Green Leafe
- where everyone hangs out on Thursday nights (we're not supposed to have
classes on Friday, but because of Hurricane Isabel, our semester's a
little weird.) In the fall, there's always tailgates at the football
games, and various events put on by the social committee and the
partner's committee. There's not much at all to do in Williamsburg, but
plenty of the students party at each other's houses or hang out together.
Plus, Richmond and Norfolk are both easily accessible if you're willing
to take a drive. I wouldn't know about the dating scene, but if you're
single, then start making friends with students in joint-degree programs.
That way you're not only tapping into the students in the MBA program,
but you can use the students from the Education and Law and whatever else
programs. I know LOTS of people in the program who are married, some with
children, and I know LOTS of single people. I don't think anyone feels
out of place. Between my personal life away from Williamsburg and my
social life with my friends in the program, my limited free time is amply
spoken for.
