Although there is a great deal of work, the social life at William and
Mary is a pretty good one. Classes are small and closely-knit. Because
the atmosphere is very inclusive, it is not unusual for the entire
program to attend parties together. The social committee plans a number
of organized activities (tailgates, coffee hours, boat cruise, pig
roast) that are all well attended. Spouses are welcomed into the
environment and included in all social activities. The b-school also
works to organize activities with the other graduate schools on campus
(Law, Marine Science ?? TRUST ME - the Marine Science Karaoke Fish Fest
is the best party you can ever HOPE to attend).
There are many other clubs that MBAs can join, International Students
Association, Women in Business, Net Impact, Finance Committee,
Operations, Marketing, and Consulting Committee etc. The clubs can be
very active, but are entirely student run, so the level of involvement
varies from year to year based on the enthusiasm of the members.
Williamsburg is a small town; the three ??delis?? (bars) are filled with
undergraduates and are what you would expect in a college town. There
are other bars in town ?? but most are not walking distance from campus.
Norfolk and Richmond, with much more lively nightlife activities
(concerts, plays, dance clubs) are each about 45 minutes away. While
this is not far, with the average workload, many MBAs don??t get out of
Williamsburg often.
