| Full-time MBA program |
I doubt there's any MBA student out there that's head-over-heels in love with
their career services department, and I'm sure we'd all love to be handed our
internships or jobs on a silver platter, but frankly, that's just not the way it
works today. It's tough to keep up with all the things that Career Services asks
us to do (like use certain resources regularly, or follow-up with such-and-so)
but I, like many of my classmates, plan to use the semester break to catch up on
a lot of that work. Career Services does an excellent job with providing us with
tools to perfect our searches, and they've given us some really unique programs
to use that I've never heard of anywhere else. One in particular is called the
Executive Partner program, which consists of about 75 local former executives,
most of whom are retired, but some still work. They've worked for Fortune 500
companies, run their own companies, and worked in practically every industry
there is. The Executive Partners are available to us to contact with questions,
use as Career Coaches, they've come into the classrooms to speak - it's a really
great opportunity for us to use. One last thing - we just got a brand new
Director (his first official day isn't until tomorrow.) We've had a couple of
opportunities to meet him, and he's got some good ideas about where to go and
what to do, and I've got faith in him. Like I said at the beginning, it's tough
to find anyone that wants to give love to their Career Services department, but
you have to remember that it's NOT their job to give you a job, it's their job to
HELP.
