Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA |
William and Mary is a small and very personal school. You realize this
early in the application process when the second or third time you call
the admissions office; Danny Banks (practically an admissions
institution) recognizes your voice and calls you by name. (How he does
it ?? no one knows.)
The admissions structure is pretty typical for a business school ??
application, essays, interview, and campus visit. But how it is handled
makes a world of difference. The admissions office works very hard to
make sure that every student WANTS to be there. To this end, sincere
essays and a strong interview are essential. GMAT scores and college
grades are important but not all powerful. Students have diverse
backgrounds ?? and while there is no cookie cutter pattern for admission ??
expressing a clear desire to be a W&M MBA is an essential element.
To help communicate what the W&M MBA is all about, the admissions office
enlists the aid of the current students. Each candidate is assigned a
MBA student to act as a guide, take the candidate to class and answer
questions. Usually this involves taking the candidate to lunch as
well. The idea is to give the MBA candidate a good taste of what life
is like ?? the good and the bad to help them to form an accurate picture
of live at William and Mary.
The admissions office compiles feedback from the interview, the student
input, grades, test scores and work experience. Admissions are
competitive but not cut-throat.
The admissions office then works closly with accepted students to help
facilitate the move to Williamsburg.
