Claremont is a charming and very safe small community. Given the
location in the middle of the suburban concrete jungle it is a
surprising oasis with a great quality of life. For its size there are
many good restaurants. Note, however, that there are NO bars NOR drive
through restaurants allowed in the Claremont city limits. But both can
be found on borders on either side of this small town.
Though it is 45 minutes from LA, it feels like a world away. Claremont
is definitely not the place to go for the Southern California
experience. If you don't mind a 1 hour each way commute you can live at
the beach and have the benefits of both worlds.
Only drawback is that it gets incredibly smoggy in the summer. Winters
are beautiful, though.
