Great social life. The school sponsors Friday "B**rs" events with free
food and drink; it is a good time to socialize and get to meet your
fellow students. Groups usually form, and the event is taken elsewhere
to local bars or to a student's home. Once a year the school held an
International Festival with students preparing food from all over the
world; the day also includes presentations of different countries/states
and the food and drink is free. Follies is also a good time with a
talent show put on by the students at a local club.
There are many clubs on campus, from sports to business, and many
intramural leagues and case competitions to participate in. Students
usually belong to more than one club because they each offer something
that is unique.
About one mile from campus you can find Walnut Street. These 4 blocks
in the Shadyside area contain multiple restaurants (Chinese, Thai,
Japanese, American, Mexican, Peruvian, Italian, French, etc) and bars.
Most students hang out at either Doc's, Penn Tavern, or Pittsburgh Deli
Company. They are within walking distance of school and most student's
homes.
The dating scene is good. There are few people at CMU but just two
blocks away is the University of Pittsburgh campus with thousands of
students from Pittsburgh, other areas in the US, and internationals.
Again, many restaurants in the area and new bars/discos opening almost
every month in different parts of the city.
