Not much farther away is downtown Boston. Harvard and Central Squares, other hot spots, are a 20-minute subway trip. In summer, the beach is close by. In the winter, so are the ski areas. All year long, the cultural life throbs in Boston. The question is not how to get there but how much to allow.
