BU's urban campus in a town studded with colleges and universities meant
that cheap housing was available but graduate student dormitory space
parking was not. Getting to school thus means relying on public
transportation which is not always reliable or predictable. That said,
proximity to cheap eats, places to hang out, cultural attractions,
sporting events, the financial district, and the other schools of Boston
and Cambridge is fabulous. The Kenmore Square-Commonwealth area is also
upscale, clean, and fairly crime-free, so safety is not a pressing
issue. In the stylish and attractive School of Management building
housing all classrooms, teamrooms, eating spaces and library, there are
many spaces to gather or take breaks, though one needs to sign up for
team room space as early as 4 am, and climbing the marble stairs with a
full backpack for exercise gets tedious after a while. One drawback for
international students and others accustomed to smoking: they must make
do under a small overhang in front of the building.
