Having never lived on (or even that close) to the campus, I can't speak
for housing there. I commuted in from about 35 miles away. Being in an
urban area, food was plentiful and rather good. American University is
located in one of the safest neighborhoods in Washington, DC, however,
this shouldn't stop one from being constantly vigilant when it comes to
crime.
