Social Life Survey
full-time law program Vandy's social life is pretty immature. People here are pretty strung- out, paranoid and stressed and consume lots of alcohol to work through their issues. I also find it very strange that the law school encourages such random alcohol consumption; we have keg parties (yes, real kegs) every other Friday, so most people get pretty sloshed right in front of professors. Bizarre. I think the lack of sophisticated entertainment opportunities causes people to digress into random party behavior. Binge drinking, drugs, and casual sex are all prevelant among the student body. There's lots of gossip to really ameliorate the situation. It's definitely more like high school. We even have a prom in the Spring. And lockers. Most of the bars here are pretty lame; some are quite expensive, more so than some bars in NY or DC, but the only thing sophisticated is the price. Nashville is a big white trash playground with bikers/motorcyclists and country music types. Be sure to make a friend quickly; going out is definitely not that great here, unless of course you are in the above-mentioned categories.
