UVa proably has one of the best recruiting reaches of any school. I have served
on recruiting committees at large national firms. UVa students are the students
the law firms want. Because of the emphasis at the school of intelligence and
sociability, there is no school in the country who routinely turns out as bright
students with the ability to interact with real world clients. Some other top
schools (Yale in particular, and Harvard, too) are seen as attracting and
producing the more academic, not real world, types. No one questions their
intelligence, but its harder to find as good candidates for a large firm at those
schools--although certainly there are some. Although smaller than Harvard, UVa
tends to put its alumni in the top eshelons of the major law firms across the
country.
