| Full-time law program |
Starting late in the 1L first semester, students are required to meet with one
of the fulltime career counselors (all attorneys). You discuss what area(s) of
law you're interested in and how to get the job you want. Internships and jobs
with firms are available to virtually everyone. If you are on one of the journals
(because of grades in the top 10-15%), then you may have more options. Some firms
only interview students on journals. Most employers, however, simply want
reasonable grades and people who are personable and who will be good co-workers.
The school supports public interest law in a number of ways. One of the student
organizations subsidizes some the summer interns in public interest. Students can
also research for professors and judges whose recommendations carry a lot of
weight with future employers. Of the two law schools in Pittsburgh, Pitt is the
more prestigious, however, law firms hire from both schools.
