Quality of Life Survey |
| Full-time Law |
If you go to Penn Law - do NOT live in west philadelphia or in the "grad"
dorms. Your quality of life will just suck. A lot of students do live
in the grad form their first year, so if you want to re-live the
undergrad lifestyle and make a lot of friends fast, that's an option for
the 1st year, but then you need to move to Center City and live a normal
young adult lifestyle. Center City is great, kind of like a miniature
New York City, with a beautiful little urban park (Rittenhouse Square),
lots of upscale restaurants and bars. The west side of campus and w.
philadelphia in general does have safety issues -- there are muggings and
even some fatal shootings and stabbings of students. Two of my 1L
friends got mugged at knife point or gun point my first year. This is
less of an issue in Center City or in the heart of campus, but still an
issue like it would be in any big city. Penn does have free shuttle
serve to and from campus and W. Philly and Center City, so if you want to
be extra cautious just don't walk at night and take the free shuttle or
take a cab, which are very easy to find around campus.
As far as actual facilities, Penn Law has first-rate law school
facilities...the relatively new Tennenbaum Hall is amazing and houses the
world class Biddle law library. Lots of very nice study spaces and
places to just hang out, like the Goat. The old Lewis Hall has been
totally renovated and restored and they did an excellent job.
