Many of the first year law students tend to spend the majority of their
social time with other law students. Each Thursday night a first year
law student, termed "bar review man," picks a different bar in the
Minneapolis area and a large portion of the students attend "bar
review." This offers a chance to socialize with other students in a
relaxed atmosphere while also allowing students that are new to the
area to discover many of the hot spots around town. Popular areas
include downtown and uptown, which has a more small town privately
owned feel than the typical big city downtown feel. Sergeant
Preston's, Grandma's, and Town Hall Brewery are all within walking
distance of the law school and popular places for students to go to
lunch or relax after class.
There are also a large number of student organization, both at the law
school, and involving other graduate and professional students that
offer students a more traditional way to meet other students, while
also pursuing common interests.
Other events include intramural sporting events with other local law
schools, group trips to U of Minn sporting events, and a student
written and produced play (generally a parody involving poking fun at
the law school experience) each year.
