Employment Prospects Survey |
| Full-time law program |
There are wonderful administration in the career services office at the law
school. They are very helpful and generally encouraging. If you want to know
your prospects based on grades, they will tell it to you straight.
The campus recruiting situtation can be frustrating to those not in the top 25%
of the class. The majority of interviewing firms require Law Reivew or Law
Journal experience, as well as a gpa requirement. Generally, if a student does
not fall within these preferences, he/she will not get an interview, unless
someone in the firm recognizes the student's last name or the student has some
other sort of connection. Basically, it helps to know people who can pull some
strings for you. However, for a firm to recruit and interview on campus, they
can only select 80% of the students they interview. The other 20% are drawn from
a hat of those students who had an interest in the firm, but were not selected by
the firm for an interview.
Kansas is the best law school in the Kansas City area if you look at the
rankings. UMKC and Washburn students seem to be just as competitive in the KC
area, although a Kansas degree would do better outside of the KC metro. Kansas
has had a few US Supreme Court clerks within the last decade, a fact which has
helped elevate its degree's reputation.
