Athens is a college town, so their is a bit of crime just because the
average age is so low, and 18-25 year-olds tend to commit the most
crime. However, it's not a place to be afraid. Violent crime is rare and
tends to be betweeen people who knwo each other (as is true in general)
so the best advice is to just be smart and it won't be a problem. The
town has a lot of hills and requires a lot of walking so be prepared to
get in shape! The busa system is fantastic and if you are up for public
transportation, it is probably the best way to get to school. Buses stop
at all the major apartment complexes in the area and drop you off closer
to the law school than any parking lot is. If you do drive to school,
the easiest palce to park is the North Deck. It is currently $30/month,
but is the easiest place to walk to and with all the books you carry
your 1st year, you will need an easy place to park. Some people park in
the Hull Street lot, which is cheaper, $10/month, but it is a HUGE hike
to class everyday. I amde the mistake of aprking there this year and it
si really bad, although, I am not athletically inclined. 1st years
generally bring a lunch with them, we have classes 9:30-3:30 daily and
while there are MANY resturants close by, it gets expensive. We have
lockers, refrigerators, microwaves, and lounges.
