Most Athens apartments are overpriced. Expect to pay $450-500/month to
live in an old 1-BR apartment. If you're lucky enough to have a lot of
money saved or funding from Daddy, you can get nicer apartments for
around $600. Per-capita, Athens has more public-housing than just
about any town in America. So if you're uncomfortable sharing
neighborhoods and a town with minorities and the poor, think twice.
This isn't suburbia or the country.
Crime is ridiculous for a small town. There are hundreds of car break-
ins. So don't have a nice car stereo, if you do buy an alarm system.
There aren't many serious crimes like rape and murder.
Dining options are numerous. Downtown Athens has great food for very
reasonable prices. Parking isn't bad here for a big school, most law
students park within a 3-5 minute walk from class. UGA's campus is
beautiful. Some of the law classrooms are older and haven't been
remodeled in decades. But about half or more of the classrooms are
state-of-the-art. The law library has been a bit crowded this year
because the 1L class is one of the largest ever.
