Life can be tough at Chicago Law - particularly in your first year.
Hyde Park doesn't do much to help the situation, but there's little that
could.
The Law School is located across the "midway" (a large grassy area which
is owned by the city of Chicago) from the rest of the University of
Chicago, and can at times isolate the law school from the vibrant campus
(especially during Chicago winters when the midway doubles as a wind
tunnel).
Hyde Park itself can be beautiful and scary at the same time. The area
immediately surrounding the campus is rife with restored brownstones and
ekes old-age aristocracy. The area immediately south of the law school
can seem like run-down projects, waiting to be condemned.
The new part of the law school is equipped with state-of-the-art
classrooms where most students type notes in a laptop. The original
classrooms of the law school are in great need of updating, although
there is some charm to knowing that you're sitting in the same chairs of
some of the great legal minds of the 20th century. Unfortunately, that
charm is short lived.
