Social Life Survey |
| Full-time law program |
Students enjoy an active social life, if they wish to have one. The
student body is extraordinarily friendly, and people tend to be
inclusive. This was a pleasant discovery from a student from another
state who knew no one in the Los Angeles area upon entering school (me).
The student bar association sponsors occasional social events in the
courtyard after school, a weekly "bar review" where one local bar is
designated as a meeting point for all UCLA law student seeking to go out
and spend time with friends that evening, and Barrister's Ball -- a semi-
formal dinner and dance in the spring. In addition, various
extracurricular groups provide their members with additional social
opportunities.
Law students tend not to socialize much with other members of the
general university student body, but on occasion we have co-sponsored
events with the Medical and Business schools. The Graduate Student
Association sponsors "Grad Bar" approximately once a month, and this
offers the opportunity to socialize with other graduate students on
campus.
Many law students choose to take UCLA-offered recreation courses.
Recreation offerings tend to be plentiful and interesting. Among the
offerings are: sailing, surfing, horseback riding, ballroom dance, and a
smattering of aerobics classes.
There are no real preferred bars, clubs, or restaurants with regards to
the law school student body. Some people spend a little more time in
Westwood than others. Most law students behave like young professionals
anyway, going to a variety of different places.
