There are not many bars in Davis, but they are always bursting with
people. The social life, for better or for worst, revolves around
parties and bars, because there is really nothing else open late at
night, unless someone decides to make the short drive to Sacramento or
the managable drive to San Francisco or Berkeley. The favorite bar for
Dancing is Cantina, although it is primarily an undergraduate scene.
The favorite bar among graduate students is Sophia's, which is the
progeny of the Thai restaurant next door with the same name. This
student favorite has extremely skilled bartenders who specialize in
making exotic drinks, yet the prices are very reasonable. There are a
few other haunts such a local brewery, Sudwerk; there is a smaller bar
with a country flavor called Froggy's; and finally the bar the routinely
features 7 drinks for the price of one (you get what you pay for,
however), as well as salsa and line dancing, the Graduate.
