Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time law program |
Most public schools--especially law schools--are extremely numbers
driven. However, Davis' admissions committee allows one's personal
statement to get added weight where appropriate. To some extent the
admissions process is still numbers-driven: based on GPAs, test scores,
and a few other factors there are automatic admits and automatic
rejects. But unlike many other schools, Davis has an unusually large
possibly admit/reject area, where the admissions committee scrutinizes
each application. There, the personal statement and particular
background of a student may make a huge difference. Also of interest is
the fact that there are students (usually two third years) on the
admissions committee. While Davis is certainly among the most selective
schools, it is not arbitrarily "selective" in a purely statistical
sense. It makes a great deal of sense to fine-tune one's application to
UC Davis, because even nuances can carry a great deal of weight.
