Housing in the Tuscaloosa area is quite cheap. A 2 bedroom/ 2 bath
apartment can be found near campus for around $550/month. A 1 bedroom/
1 bath apartment would be right around $400/month. There may be housing
available for law students on campus, but I don't know anyone personally
that lives in such housing. I would say almost everyone lives in off-
campus apartments. Tuscaloosa is a big enough city that it does have
quite a few good dining establishments. It has usual chain restauraunts
like Chilli's, Outback, Applebee's, etc., but it also has some really
good independent restauraunts as well. These range from all price
ranges, really chep and really good fare [15th Street/Northport Diner,
Depalma's, Cafe Venice, Tut's] to expensive [Arman's, The Globe,
Kozy's].
One of the major drawbacks to Alabama's law school is the law school
building itself. It was built in the 1970's, and it has a "modern for
the 70's" feel about it. The crimson carpet is quite tacky, and it
lacks a great deal of things that other law schools have such as a
caffeteria etc. However, they are about to break ground on an addition
to the law school that will supposedly vastly improve the facilities.
But right now I would say that the facilities at Alabama are a drawback
to the school.
